Over UAH 5 billion allocated for development of airports ahead of UEFA EURO 2012

A total of UAH 5.102 billion (UAH 7.93 / USD 1) is to be allocated from the state budget this year to finance the development of airports as part of Ukraine's preparations for hosting the finals of the UEFA EURO 2012 European Football Championship.

The amount is stipulated in the new version of the state programme on preparing for and hosting EURO 2012, which was approved by a government resolution, the Transport and Communications Ministry's press service reported on June 1.

In particular, UAH 337 million will be allocated for the development of Kyiv's Boryspil Airport, UAH 113.03 million for Kyiv's Zhuliany Airport, UAH 1.033 billion for Lviv Airport, UAH 534.9 million for Kharkiv Airport, and UAH 2.993 billion for Donetsk Airport.

In general, according to the ministry, UAH 834.58 million has been allocated for the development of airports involved in preparations for EURO 2012, of which over UAH 600 million has already been used.

In particular, UAH 482.18 million has been spent on the development of Donetsk Airport, UAH 165 million on Lviv Airport, UAH 7.4 million on Zhuliany Airport, UAH 80 million on Kharkiv Airport, and UAH 100 million on Boryspil Airport.

Only about UAH 300 million was allocated from the state budget last year for the construction and reconstruction of airports.

As UKRINFORM reported, the Ukrainian government earlier approved a new state program on preparing for and hosting the finals of the UEFA EURO 2012 European Football Championship, according to which the financing of EURO 2012 preparations was increased by UAH 15.791 billion to UAH 142.448 billion. Of these funds, UAH 29.833 billion will be allocated from the budget in the form of state support, including UAH 13.616 billion in 2010 and UAH 16.217 billion in 2011.

In December 2009, UEFA finally approved Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv and Donetsk as EURO 2012 host cities
